Pharmaceuticals, Medical Devices & Life Sciences: Tamper-Evident Seals for Pharmaceuticals and Developments in Microfluidics

The life sciences industry plays a vital role in advancing technology and research to address some of society’s most significant challenges. Medical devices are a critical component of this industry as they are essential in diagnosing and managing medical conditions. This innovative industry has become increasingly relevant in the new-tech medical device space and for personalized medicine. At 3D AG we have expertise in manufacturing tools for Microfluidic applications for medical devices.

The development and manufacturing of pharmaceutical products have transformed public and individual health worldwide. However, the pharmaceutical industry is not without its challenges. Rising costs, regulatory and compliance hurdles, as well as safety and security concerns hinder and sometimes halt important scientific innovation. It is crucial to protect pharmaceuticals and a mechanism for safeguarding human health of the future: anti-counterfeiting is a crucial tool to achieve this.

Manufacturing Tools for Microfluidics

Cost-Effective Manufacturing of Microfluidic Structures for Diagnostics

Medical devices have come a long way in recent years, particularly in the field of microfluidics. Microfluidics is the science and technology of controlling small amounts of fluids. The use of microfluidics in medical devices has allowed for more precise and accurate diagnostics, drug delivery, and disease monitoring. Microfluidic devices are also revolutionizing point-of-care diagnostics by enabling testing to be conducted directly on patient samples. This eliminates the need to send samples to a laboratory, leading to quicker results and more immediate treatment decisions.

At 3D AG, we provide innovative solutions for the cost-effective manufacturing of discs and tools used in diagnostic devices. With our experience in replicating structures, we are well-equipped and have supported the development and engineering of various microfluidic applications. By leveraging our capabilities and technology, we create custom solutions for high-quality precision parts for medical diagnostics and biotechnology.

WHY 3D AG?

3D AG has worked with some of the top 10 largest pharmaceutical companies delivering secure and easily identifiable holographic solutions. With the mission to protect public health and innovate the life sciences industry, our expertise in structure replication enables us to provide cost-effective manufacturing technologies for medical devices, specifically for microfluidics and diagnostic applications.

Unique Identifiers - EU Directive 2011/62/EU

Unique Identifiers and Holographic Tamper-Evident Seals for Compliance with the EU Directive 2011/62/EU

The EU Directive 2011/62/EU, commonly known as the Falsified Medicines Directive (FMD), requires unique identifiers on each unit of sale, which includes a product code, serial number, batch number, and expiration date. Additionally, the system known as the European Medicines Verification System (EMVS), enables stakeholders in the pharmaceutical supply chain to check the authenticity of products by scanning the unique identifiers. The FMD also mandates certain safety features on the packaging of medicinal products, such as tamper-evident seals, to prevent the manipulation of pharmaceuticals.
In effect since February 2019, 3D AG has supported pharmaceutical companies to implement holographic tamper-evident seals or in the manufacturing of holographic labels as base layer for scannable QR codes. Holograms portray trust and are eye-catching features that can be easily identified.

Hot Stamping Foil for Packaging

Holographic Hot Stamping Foil for Anti-Counterfeiting and Branding of Pharmaceuticals

3D AG has worked with some of the top 10 largest pharmaceutical companies to deliver anti-counterfeiting features and solutions. Counterfeit pharmaceuticals pose a significant danger to public health. In many cases fake drugs are produced in unsanitary conditions and can contain dangerous ingredients, incorrect dosages, or even no active ingredients at all. It is estimated that up to 10% of the global pharmaceutical market consists of counterfeit drugs. These drugs can be found in both developing and developed countries, with the trade of counterfeit drugs generating billions of dollars in revenue for criminal organizations.

3D AG’s customized holographic hot stamping foil can be incorporated into pharmaceutical packaging as an effective tool for authentication. Our unique and eye-catching hologram designs will play an elemental role in consumer trust and branding. When placed on pharmaceutical packaging, they provide a visual cue that indicates efforts to empower customers to authenticate products.
