As an industrial company, we continuously implement practices that align with sustainable manufacturing. We are proud to announce our achievements: 3D AG will be a net-zero manufacturing site by 2024. But, we take it a step further. As leading engineering company, we produce products that create sustainable improvement in solar technologies and next-generation products. It is important to us, to have a positive impact on our planet. Additionally, we learn to thrive from nature through our involvement in many biomimetic projects.
At 3D AG we have integrated corporate social responsibility (CSR) at an organizational and strategic level. We take multiple actions to practice corporate citizenship because it is important to us to be conscious of the impact we have on all aspects of society, including economical, social and environmental aspects. From the resources we choose and supply chains we are a part of, to the way we engage with our team, their surroundings and their personal growth.
Renewable Heating System with Pellets from Wood Chips and Sawdust
3D AG fully removed its oil tanks in 2019 and linked the entire facility to a local provider of renewable energy. Together with Korporation Baar, we are connected to a central heating system which runs on wood pellets as a renewable energy source. Pellet heating is a renewable resource heating system in which wood pellets (small pellets from wood chips and sawdust) are combusted. Other pelletized fuels such as straw pellets are used occasionally. Korporation Baar manages around 280 hectares of forest and creates and maintains local jobs. In addition to the forestry work and the operation of their own pellet heating centers, Korportation Baar also offer other services such as structural and operational maintenance of streams, maintenance of hiking trails and fire pits, combating neophytes and much more.
3D AG Transferring 95% of Non-Recyclable Waste to Energy
As an industrially active company 3D AG produces tons of waste. The waste is carefully separated at a specially dedicated storage center at 3D AG’s manufacturing site. A majority of the waste can be recycled (electronics, metals, polymers, paper, wood, etc.), however, many tons of waste unfortunately remain as non-recyclable waste due to their composition or material. In collaboration with Schneider Umweltservice, a Swiss company pioneering in innovative recycling solutions since 1905, 3D AG has found solutions to make this waste useful on a mission to minimize the impact on the environment. All non-recyclable waste produced at 3D AG is burned to gain energy by means of thermal recycling. This comes to use in industries such as cement production, heating systems or electricity.
3D AG Investing in Global Reforestation and Enabling Biodiversity
We especially care about reforestation! That’s why we teamed up with One Tree Planted to plant trees and fight against deforestation. But why trees? Trees help clean the air we breathe, filter the water we drink, and provide habitat to over 80% of the world’s terrestrial biodiversity. Forests provide jobs to over 1.6 billion people, absorb harmful carbon from the atmosphere, and are key ingredients in 25% of all medicines. One Tree Planted is a 501c3 non-profit with a focus on global reforestation.
ISO 14001: Environmental Management System as a Part of 3D AG’s Strategy
3D AG is certified ISO 14001 since 2018 and uses this environmental management system to help identify, manage, monitor and control environmental topics in a holistic manner. Like other ISO management system standards, ISO 14001 includes an approach of continual improvement of an organization’s systems which allows 3D AG to continually reassess and improve. The standard includes elements such as the prominence of environmental management within the organization’s strategic planning processes, greater input from leadership and a stronger commitment to proactive initiatives that boost environmental performance.
Volunteering Program Enabling our Team to Contribute to the Local Community
At 3D AG we have integrated a volunteering program, designed to provide our employees with the opportunity to contribute their time and skills to local volunteer groups and make a positive impact. By collaborating with local volunteer groups, we aim to address critical societal needs and create a culture of compassion and engagement. Our volunteering program enables employees to sign up and dedicate their work time to a good cause. We have established partnerships with reputable organizations across different sectors, including education, environmental conservation, social welfare, and more. These volunteer groups work tirelessly to address critical needs within our community and make a real difference in the lives of those they serve.
