Master Templates
& Substrate Materials
The engineering of micro and nanostructures results in a master template. For each structure there is an optimal mastering technology, a key process suitable for the origination of a structure. Depending on attributes such as size, depth, aspect ratio and tolerances, the origination approach must be chosen. Mastering technologies will result in different substrate materials, such as organic, inorganic and metal materials, each bringing different benefits to the further processing. With our cutting-edge in-house technologies and a vast network of partners, we provide customized services to engineer your master structure.
Substrates and Base Materials
- Silicon, fused silica or quartz wafers
- Thin films & UV resins
- Photoresists, glass
- Polymers (PC, PMMA, etc.)
- Metals (steel, aluminium, etc.)
Accuracy & Efficiency in Engineering
3D AG supports you to engineer master templates that are optimized to reach the efficiency needed in the final product. This first step of fabrication is crucial to save development costs!
Master Templates as Cornerstone to Develop Everyday Products
The engineering of structures to receive a master template is a critical and complex process that lays the foundation for the manufacturing of most miniaturized systems today. With the rapid development of micro and nanofabrication, this field has become an essential part of modern industry, enabling the creation of next-generation products that push the boundaries of what is possible. Today, fabrication processes are a substantial part of supply chains, and nanostructures are utilized in many everyday products, underscoring the importance of precise and efficient engineering in this field.
From Master Template to Durable Mold
The next crucial step is to transfer the fabricated micro or nanostructure from the master template to a material that is more rigid and from which many templates can be produced. As the engineering of a structure to originate the original is a difficult step, it is very important to preserve it by replicating multiple copies for further processing.Â

This is elementary for either prototyping and testing, as well as for industrial production. At 3D AG we have developed our electroforming process for the past 30 years and excel at transfering structures from nearly any master template to durable and rigid tools, so called shims.
