Counterfeit products are very attractive when you only focus on the final appearance and the low prices, we wonder “why buy the real one for 3 to 5 times the price! This one is just like the real deal”… but is it really?

Inside the World of Beauty Product Creation

Beauty products are crafted with precision in state-of-the-art facilities that are commonly referred to as “laboratories”. These facilities are maintained to a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness, where each worker dons gloves, hair nets, and white robes to ensure that the products are free from any contaminants.

The products are meticulously created using sterilized machines, and undergo rigorous testing before shipment to guarantee superior brand and product quality. From carefully selected ingredients to controlled manufacturing processes, every aspect of the beauty product creation process is fine-tuned to deliver exceptional results that consumers can trust.

The manufacturing process behind counterfeit products.

Counterfeit products are typically manufactured in illegal factories located in China, where sanitary regulations are virtually non-existent. The conditions in these factories are so appalling that Greg Marrazzo, Senior Vice President and Deputy Counsel of Estée Lauder Companies, described them in an interview as being worse than the most unsanitary frat house bathroom. The manufacturing process takes place in filthy environments, rife with bacteria and other contaminants.

Not only are the working conditions horrific, but the ingredients used in these counterfeit products are equally alarming. FBI reports have revealed that these phony cosmetics may contain arsenic, beryllium, and cadmium – all known carcinogens – as well as high levels of aluminum and dangerous amounts of bacteria. These toxic ingredients have been known to cause skin conditions such as acne and psoriasis, as well as eye infections and rashes.

"If I could paint a picture of what it's like in one of these (counterfeit factories in China), If you took the most disgusting frat house bathroom, it looks like a surgical suite compared to these conditions. It’s filthy, there’s bacteria everywhere... it’s disgusting."

Outsmart Counterfeit Cosmetics and Protect Yourself

When it comes to buying beauty products, it’s important to be savvy and know how to spot fakes. One way to ensure authenticity is to purchase from authorized or well-known resellers. For online shopping, stick to reputable cosmetic shops or authorized Amazon sellers, and for in-person shopping, opt for official drugstores or beauty stores in malls where the risk of counterfeit goods is lower.

But that’s not all – look for security features on the packaging like holograms or QR codes, which can reveal the origin and tracking history of the product. With more and more companies utilizing tracking technology, a quick scan can result in safe and secure shopping.

Protecting oneself from counterfeit cosmetics

One such technology is 3D AG’s smart security labels, which not only verifies the product’s origin but also provides additional information and even allows direct communication with the brand. Don’t compromise on your beauty routine – learn how to protect yourself and shop like a pro.
